1. The first time I was called a Freak, I was twelve years old and in gym class. I have always been flexible, but when we were stretching before gym class, one girl saw how far I could stretch and spontaneously shouted “Freak!” at me.
Later, after we both graduated from high school, she was thrown from a moving car. Her face was terribly mutilated in the accident, as it had made contact with the road when she was tossed from the vehicle.
Try as I might, I cannot help but think of these two things in conjunction.
-From My 365 Days Book
In January 2012 I will release a book with all the photos from my 365 Days project, along with commentary about the photos and an introduction by Jack Scoresby. This story is from that book. Though my book contains a lot of fiction, this story is, strangely, true.

  2. Part of the whole 365Days project was learning to produce when I felt down, sick or just plain old uninspired. When Jennifer Rodgers was around, it was impossible to remain uninspired. Having her in a photo with me automatically made it better.

  3. Day Fifty Nine: Snow White, Rose Red
If all you had to make conclusions about my life were the photos from my various projects, I think you’d make some (understandable, but incorrect) conclusions about my relationship with Jennifer Rodgers.

  4. Though my 365 Days project was a self portrait project, it has numerous guest appearances from friends in my life. Besides my husband, Jennifer Rodgers was the person who was my most frequent co-star. Looking at the pictures, there are even those I took where she was around while I took it, but not in the photo. Jennifer has been a huge influence on my artwork, though we work in different formats.
This one is still available for purchase. It’s one of my most frequently viewed photos. I think my breasts look amazing in this photo - so luminous! Also, I love that Jennifer has a knife to my throat. Oh, the fun we have together!

  5. Day 363 just sold. Poof! Gone. One copy, one owner.
Meaning the highest numbered photo available for print is now Day 362: Teeth, Chain, Eye

  6. I think the impressive thing about this photo isn’t the lighting, or the camera work, it’s the fact that I managed to tie MYSELF up.
Okay, here’s one of those things about me that when I tell people, they don’t believe until I bring out the photos but I used to be a contortionist. So, you know how some people like to be scratched in the part of their back they can’t reach?
Well, I don’t have a part of my back I can’t reach. I can reach ALL OF IT. The whole thing. And I can tie a knot back there while I’m at it. I am your photographer contortionist and I am hardcore.
Also, I’ve had more coffee today than usual. Take that into consideration.

  7. You don’t want it, okay?
Some of you noticed that I put up the second cheapest photo from my 365 Days set up today, but not the cheapest. The reason is, I don’t think you want the cheapest one. The cheapest one is $25, was inspired by Titus, and it is gruesome in LAYERS.Yes, I have no hands in that shot. Yes, I’m bleeding out of my mouth. Yes, I’m wearing a V-Day shirt.
It’s called The Two Brothers, and I totally understand that you don’t want it in your house.

  8. Day 363: Forbidden is the most expensive photo that is still for sale from my 365Days project.  At the time I took it, I felt like there was a story to it, but I didn’t have the words for it. Fortunately, my friend Filamena Young did:
“This is where he died. Right here on the rocks. My brothers killed him and his head spilled out and joined the river.” She told me with a certain kind of coldness.
“I come here every year on the day we would have gotten married. I’ll take our daughter here when she’s old enough to understand.” Her voice broke for just a minute when she talked about Hester, like alway. Like always, she went cold again a half a beat later.
“He’ll show up some day.” She looked away from me down at the rocks while she explained. “He’ll show up to forgive me or take me back with him.”
“Did you hear something?” She looked up at me, flushed all over the cheeks and chest.
I did, I heard something and looked around.

  9. The second cheapest photo from my 365 Days set that is still available for sale is Day 26: (for $26, which includes shipping) “Minnie”.
In it I’m all flapper hair, my grandmothers necklace and banana eyes.

  10. For 365 Days from November 2007 - November 2008 I took a self portrait every day. During that time performed burlesque, built a fatsuit, wrote a RPG, met Katie West, hung out with Jack Scoresby, created my first book cover, I met scores of new friends and I got married. I also grew tremendously as an artist.
Doing something daily inspires growth, and I threw myself into this project. I wanted to challenge myself daily, to use costumes and props and lighting and new locations to really push myself to new places. I think if you look at the beginning of the project and the end, you can see my development clearly. I’m a different artist now, and the better for it.
To make the project special, I decided to sell each of the photos I took for the price of the day they were taken on. Day One was a dollar, and day 365 was three hundred and sixty five dollars. I decided to only sell one print of any photo in the set. That means that there is only one copy of each photo in existence, with one owner.
At the end, I sold about half of the photos from my 365 Set. Day One and Day 365 were sold within hours of posting. Many are still available though. Some are gruesome, some are erotic, some are heavily digitally manipulated and some are snapshots. All of them are a part of a time of change and growth in my life. In each one, I tried to tell a story, but in all of them, you can see my own story. I am creating, I am traveling, I am learning, I am in love.

  11. Day Ten
I was recently asked if I would ever do a 365 Days project again. The answer is that since I’ve completed that project, I want to move on to other projects, new projects, but that if something changed with me - physically, socially, I think I might do it again, to record that change.
I could see myself doing a daily photo project in the future, maybe next year or the year after.  For 280 Days though, rather than 365.
